The adult Autism and ADHD assessment service are pleased to be offering an opportunity for a registered Nurse associate to join our expanding and developing service.
We are looking for a registered Nurse associate who has a passion and interest in supporting those in our local population who are prescribed ADHD medications. The role is part of overall service development improving the experience for patients prescribed ADHD medications in accordance with NICE guidelines.
This is an opportunity for the right candidate to be part of the developing and growing area of specialist neurodevelopmental assessments in Gloucestershire
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are to deliver annual reviews / physical health observations including weight, blood pressure, heart rate and completion of a physical health check proforma covering the effectiveness and possible side effects relating to medication prescribed for ADHD. The suitable candidate will be able to work independently, have good communication, observational skills and be fully competent at taking baseline physical health checks and confident in discussing patients' experiences of their medication (guided by a proforma). You will be working unsupervised, receiving support from line-managers and clinical specialists as appropriate. You will also be required to work closely with senior clinical specialists in the team to ensure ongoing development of the role, accurate and safe recording of physical observations, side effects and concerns noted or raised.

You will have the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute towards the provision of an accurate and timely service for patients. You will be required, utilising a proforma, to discuss patients experiences of their medication and record their baseline physical health observations. You will be expected to apply professional judgments and specialist skills to technical situations. This may include making decisions as to whether you direct patients to their GPs, to the teams non-medical prescribers or choose to discharge with no further action required.
You will be required to communicate effectively with patients and to colleagues, including GP practice staff, MHICT, Talking Therapies as required via phone calls, letters or emails. Collect and collate data / information effectively for the purpose of audit, research and service performance.
As this is a new and developing role in the Adult ADHD and Autism service, there will also be the expectation that you will support senior members of both services in delivering a post diagnostic education group. This will initially be for those diagnosed in our service with Autistic Spectrum condition, however, as the service develops, the role will also include being part of creating and developing a post diagnostic group for those diagnosed with ADHD.
