Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, Band 4 Medical Secretary to join our friendly and welcoming Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT) based at Rikenel, Gloucester.

Main duties of the job

About you

The successful candidate will provide a full confidential, administrative and secretarial service to Consultants and their Medical Team and will need to main Trust Values throughout all aspects of their work. They will be expected to work as part of a team in delivering an effective service, and assisting clinical staff to ensure that services meet the operational needs.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working team player with excellent communication, organisational and customer-service skills who can work collaboratively with colleagues to manage the workload on a day-to-day basis, prioritise work to meet the deadlines and sustain quality in their document production.

As the first point of contact for the Consultant and the Medical Team, you will be expected to manage enquiries from patients, carers and professionals and to provide non-clinical help. The ability to demonstrate excellent customer service and to maintain a calm, positive and flexible approach is an essential part of this post.

Previous NHS experience is essential.

  • Word processing/Typing e.g. RSA or equivalent experience

  • NVQ Level 3 in administration or equivalent
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma for Medical Secretaries

  • Experience of unsupervised administrative work in a busy office environment
  • Previous experience of using software packages such as Microsoft Office i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook to a high level
  • Established experience in a senior administrative role
  • Experience of using customer/ patient information/ clinical systems
  • Experience of accurate data inputting and retrieval
  • Experience of maintaining a comprehensive, logical, computerised filing system
  • Minute taking experience
