Job summary

We are looking for skilled individuals with phlebotomy experience to join our team. We are the Integrated Community team based in the Cotswolds and we are looking for phlebotomists to work within our community nursing service.

You will be part of a team delivering a high-quality service to housebound patients supporting referrals from our local partners.

We are a cohesive team who are supportive, caring and passionate about delivering excellent patient care. As a phlebotomist you will work closely with nursing colleagues and the referral centre to deliver a phlebotomy service Monday to Fridays.

This is an exciting opportunity for those seeking a rewarding and varied phlebotomy role, within the community environment.

We are a modern trust, which means whilst on the go you'll be equipped for mobile working (using a laptop and smart phone device); not only is this safer because you will have access all patient information at your fingertips, it also means you can complete records and any other patient paperwork in real time, so you can then focus all your attention on your next patient.

We encourage ongoing learning and professional development. We are a supportive team and work with new starters to gain the necessary competencies and confidence to ensure a successful induction.

Main duties of the job

The role of the phlebotomist is to provide a service to support community nursing within the Integrated Community Team (ICT). To ensure patients are able to access timely venepuncture as a result of an appropriately completed request from a clinician.

  • Demonstrate an awareness of physical, psycho-social, cultural and environmental needs of patients and their family/carer when in patient's homes
  • To obtain high quality blood samples from patients in the home environment
  • Responsible for planning day to day work tasks and activities within an occasionally unpredictable environment
  • To work independently and as part of a team.

About us

At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, we are supportive of the people we care for in the community and aim to provide a fully responsive service to everyone who needs it. This is the same approach we take for our employees. We look to value the skills and experiences of those we work with, whether they are service users, carers, families or those looking to work with us.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is part of the NHS. We treat NHS patients according to NHS principles and standards. The difference is the Trust is accountable to local people, rather than to Government, and so we are able to work closely with our community to develop services in the way that best suits the needs of local people.

Our Staff Survey results showed people at our Trust feel they are engaged, part of a team and work for a compassionate and inclusive organisation.

Our overall scores were better than average in eight of nine themes and level in one - the best overall results for a community, mental health and learning disabilities Trust in the south west and first equal amongst all sector NHS providers within the region too.
