Job summary
Working Well Occupational Health Service is a member of the professional Health @ Work Network of NHS Occupational Health Services in England. The service is hosted by Gloucestershire Health and Care Services NHS Foundation Trust and provides occupational health services to the NHS health community within Gloucestershire. In addition, the service has a sizeable external portfolio of non-NHS, private and public clients. Services are provided to approximately 20,000 employees in total.
This role will be an integral part of providing specialist medical support to Working Well Occupational Health clients in supporting the health and wellbeing of their workforce.
Main duties of the job
To provide expert occupational health advice and guidance to line managers and Working Well clinical staff following referral on complex issues related to both mental and physical health.

Job responsibilities
The appointee will be required primarily to undertake face-to-face, virtual and telephone clinical assessments of workers (risk assessment permitting) with the subsequent provision of reports to management. There will also be a requirement to undertake work place visits, engage in audit and undertake some support and teaching to occupational health nursing staff.
Medical Responsibilities:
- To work within the guidelines set by the GMC and Faculty of Occupational Medicine regarding consent
- To undertake occupational health assessment of employees in response to management referrals and self-referrals.
- To prepare impartial reports for managers to an agreed format and in response to management referrals, taking into account current employment, health and safety legislation and the policies and procedures of the relevant employer.
- To liaise with treating practitioners where appropriate and with consent.
- To advise managers and employees on health risks at work or any relevant health issue affecting their staff.
- To take part in case conferences if appropriate.
Professional:
To provide advice to managers and HR on the appropriate use of the occupational health service
- To provide advice on relevant infection control issues involving employees in liaison with the Infection Control Team.
- To take a proactive part in regular team meetings
- To visit work places, where appropriate, to conduct needs assessments of work processes and hazards and provide recommendations to employers.
- To identify trends in health or work practices in order to inform health and wellbeing strategies for Clients.
- To participate in a comprehensive audit programme
- To contribute to Policy development/research as agreed by the Occupational Health Consultant.
Leadership:
- To support the Working Well management team in providing leadership, advice and guidance to the team with regards to changes in occupational health developments/ guidance/ practice.
