Job summary

You will have completed a degree level qualification in Nutrition and Health or other Nutrition based degree/Post graduate diploma and ideally be either a Registered Nutritionist or Associate Registered Nutritionist.
You will be interested and enthusiastic about improving the access to structured education for people who have Type 2 Diabetes. This is more than an educational role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the development of the existing education programmes and to make a real difference to the lives of patients with a long term condition. By empowering the person to self-manage their condition, you will be reducing the risk of them developing a long term complication.
Following in house training, the post holder will also provide basic diabetes training for people working within learning disability homes and supported living environments and also housebound patients.
Main duties of the job
Based at Southgate Moorings in Gloucester you will be working within a team of diabetes specialist nurses, specialist dietitians and 2 other diabetes educators.
The post will involve delivering our education programme throughout the county, in various community settings, such as community hospitals and community centres. There will also be the opportunity to deliver 1-1 education to some patients. Sessions are also delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams. You will also assist with some administrative duties to support the smooth running of the service, such as booking appointments.
We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic educator to complement our dynamic forward thinking team. Experience of working with groups, using virtual platforms and knowledge of diabetes would be an advantage.
A comprehensive induction and training programme will be provided and you will be operationally supported by the community diabetes team. The successful applicant will be required to work flexibly and have the ability to drive to various locations throughout the county.
About us
At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, we are supportive of the people we care for in the community and aim to provide a fully responsive service to everyone who needs it. This is the same approach we take for our employees. We look to value the skills and experiences of those we work with, whether they are service users, carers, families or those looking to work with us.
Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is part of the NHS. We treat NHS patients according to NHS principles and standards. The difference is the Trust is accountable to local people, rather than to Government, and so we are able to work closely with our community to develop services in the way that best suits the needs of local people.
Our Staff Survey results showed people at our Trust feel they are engaged, part of a team and work for a compassionate and inclusive organisation.
Our overall scores were better than average in eight of nine themes and level in one - the best overall results for a community, mental health and learning disabilities Trust in the south west and first equal amongst all sector NHS providers within the region too.
