Job summary

Here at Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust we have an exciting opportunity for an 18-month fixed term full-time In-Service / Direct Entry training post in Echocardiography. This is part of the Echocardiography Training Programme developed by the National School of Healthcare Science and funded by NHS England.

Successful ETP trainees will be trained to BSE accreditation level 2 and will be awarded a Post-graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography.

Surrey and Sussex is a busy district general Hospital and is committed to developing the future work force for Cardiac Physiologist/Healthcare Scientists.

Essential

  • A 1st or 2:1 undergraduate honours or integrated master's degree in Cardiac Physiology (PTP) or oA 1st or 2:1 undergraduate honours or integrated master's degree in a scientific or healthcare subject - this must include relevant modules either in human physiology and anatomy or in physics. Examples include but are not limited to: Pure or Applied Physics, Human Biology, Sports Science, Nursing and Radiography or oA 2:2 undergraduate honours degree in Cardiac Physiology (PTP) plus relevant cardiology experience. HEI approval must be obtained to confirm acceptance. or oA 2:2 undergraduate honours degree plus a relevant higher degree (excluding MSc in Echocardiography) or oAn alternative or vocational qualification plus sufficient and relevant experience and appropriate underpinning knowledge and skills in cardiology, as evidenced by registration on the Academy for Healthcare Science Accredited Healthcare Science Practitioner Register. HEI approval must be obtained to confirm acceptance. Please note that any applicant entering via this route must have the registration in place before the start date of the ETP. Applicants who do not hold registration by the start date will not be able to commence the programme and may have any offer withdrawn. If the applicant has previously completed a post graduate qualification in Echocardiography, then they are not eligible for the ETP.
  • Has an understanding of the role of an Echocardiographer in healthcare and disease and its application in a healthcare setting.
  • A committed, in-depth interest in Echocardiography and its application to direct clinical care of patients in a clinical environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both writing and speaking in English language
  • Ability to meet the travel requirements of the training role - to include different sites for training (Satellite clinics, CDC activity and university)

  • Knowledge and understanding of 12 lead ECG interpretation
