Job summary

The post holder will carry responsibility for the effective application of the Trusts' Risk Management and Clinical Governance Strategies for Maternity within the Women and Children's Division and implementation of the Trust and Maternity specific Patient Safety Incident Response Framework Plans (PSIRPs). The post holder in collaboration with the divisional quality, safety and governance manager, develop and carry responsibility for the local risk management policies in consultation with the multi-professional team.

Main duties of the job

The women's and children's health (WaCH) division at Surrey and Sussex (SaSH) NHS Trust comprises of a maternity unit, gynaecology inpatient and outpatient services, a level 2 neonatal unit and a paediatric ward. The maternity unit for all of SaSH geographical area is based at East Surrey Hospital. The maternity team care for around 5,000 women and birthing people throughout pregnancy and postnatal period, and supported 4,200 births. The service provides antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, provided by a dedicated team of midwives, support workers, obstetrics, gynaecology and anaesthetic staff. Our Neonatal Unit (NNU), based at East Surrey Hospital, is a Level 2 unit, providing short term intensive care as well as high dependency and special care from appropriately qualified and specially trained nursing and medical staff. Admission criteria is for singleton babies born at >27 weeks, >28/40 multiples or >800g. The current capacity of the neonatal unit is 21 cots. This includes two intensive care cots, six high dependency cots and thirteen special care cots. Delivered by specialist neonatal nurses, the neonatal unit also offers a 5-day outreach service.
