Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join the existing team of 5 consultant Rheumatologists to provide a consultant led acute hospital general rheumatology service. There is a commitment to prospectively cover for the annual and study leave of the other consultants in the team.
The post holder will undertake 3 regular weekly Rheumatology outpatient clinics between the East Surrey, Crawley and Horsham Trust outpatient departments. In addition to this the post holder will look after 10 medical beds and contribute to on-call GIM rota. The post holder will also be involved in teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines and in nursing or professions allied to medicine. All consultants are expected to liaise with colleagues to ensure Departmental cover before being absent on annual or study leave; and to administer fixed commitments with six weeks' notice for both themselves and their junior medical staff, to avoid waste of resource or inappropriate cover.
