We are looking for an experienced Non-medical Prescriber (Nurse) to take the lead in our ADHD pathway. The successful candidate will be pivotal in the radical transformation of the neurodevelopmental service offer for school-aged children and young people in Surrey. You will deliver a high-quality clinical service, including assessment and management plans; and providing clinical leadership, supervision and guidance to other appropriate clinicians. The service will be delivered within an accessible, non-stigmatising, localized setting to the CYP and will contribute to the overall care pathway for the CYP.

We are a County wide service across Surrey therefore the base is negotiable. There is an expectation to ensure the roll out of the service offer is equitable across the County.

Main duties of the job

This role will be responsible for taking a clinical leadership role within the Children's Neurodevelopmental Service in Surrey. The post holder will work autonomously managing their own clinical and clinical leadership workload and continue to develop and apply their knowledge and skills to a broad range of clinically and professionally challenging and complex situations. Acting within their professional boundaries the post holder will be responsible for families across the Neurodevelopmental Service. They will work jointly with other practitioners across the alliance where there are complex co-morbidities and/or needs across the Thrive Needs Based Groupings.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership and oversight of Non-Medical Prescribers and ND Practitioners within the pathway, supporting and being responsible for clinical decision making and risk management. The post holder will contribute to the transformation of service delivery and clinical pathways and practices and have an ongoing role in the strategic development and review of the service, always ensuring the service continues to provide high quality and best practice interventions.

Provide expert knowledge and experience to address the needs of children and young people presenting with complex clinical conditions and Neurodevelopmental traits. They will lead the development of initiatives and strategies utilizing a high degree of personal autonomy.

Assess people using our services as an expert clinician and facilitate stepped up care provision where required. Be committed to working within the Thrive model and supporting the team to develop innovative practice to meet the varying needs of CYP within the service.

Provide clinical supervision and on-going training sessions to the CYPS ND Non-Medical Prescribers and other clinical members of the CYPS ND team, as indicated.

Provide highly specialist advice to the Surrey childrens workforce and Education Colleagues, especially in situations where there are conflicting views or opinions on the best course of action or care e.g. ethical dilemmas.

Provide expert advice, consultancy and information to other professionals and agencies to ensure appropriate requests for support from the service.

Support staff from within the CYPS ND Service to provide advice, help, more help and risk support appropriate to the needs and goals of children and families within the service. The post holder will be key in supporting the wider staff team to develop required skills and knowledge to deliver a high-quality service throughout.

Have advanced leadership skills to enhance the development and review of clinical pathways to meet national standards and guidelines.

Demonstrate leadership in clinical situations which are unfamiliar, complex and unpredictable.

Participate in the embedding of the organisations vision and values and promote a culture of excellence.

Implement and monitor standards of nursing practice within the service and promote continuous improvement, championing the role of the nursing profession within the SaBP

Review and monitor standards for best practice contributing towards preparation for performance evaluations. Be responsible for reviewing the quality of interventions provided within the service and highlight areas of poor practice if required, working together with the Consultant Nurse and Service Manager to support performance improvement if needed.

Provide clinical supervision to clinicians and trainees.

Clinical

The post holder will use highly complex reasoning skills to provide diagnosis, treatment options and health promotion advice in their area of expertise and develop methods and strategies to make this accessible to all. This will include effectively communicating highly complex information on managing the condition, including risks and benefits, and provide details of alternative options where appropriate.

The post holder will communicate highly sensitive and contentious information, supporting people using the service and their families/carers to make informed decisions about their care and treatment. This will require a high degree of empathy and advanced communication skills to support patients and their families.

Deliver evidence-based interventions for people using our services and regularly monitor their effectiveness. This may include delivery of psychological therapies such as Autism adapted CBT or Mindfulness, the prescribing of medication, and side effects /therapeutic response monitoring, social prescribing programmes etc.

The post holder will have competence in the clinical skills required for the role e.g. prescribing, however administration and interpretation of blood and ECG results would be advantageous.

To be familiar with and use a variety of diagnostic, symptom management and patient outcome tools.

To maintain clinical records in line with Trust policy and NMC standards.

To recognise and work within the limits of their own competency. To consult and seek advice from the Consultant Psychiatrist when appropriate.

To take part in the medical review of people as required

To facilitate discharge planning including effective communication with primary care teams and out of hours services

Conducting family meetings with people using our service, families/carers to facilitate open communication and forward planning of care options, giving full regard to confidentiality
