Job summary

This vacancy attracts a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000 in addition to £8,000 relocation allowance. The RRP is pro rata for part time employees.

We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities (CTPLD) in West Surrey. You'll be based at Cassia House in Guildford, working alongside a dedicated and welcoming multidisciplinary team to support adults with learning disabilities and complex health needs.

Our service offers specialist mental health care for people with learning disabilities across the community. You'll play a key role in providing psychiatric assessment, treatment planning, and leadership within a team of nurses, psychologists, therapists, and social care staff. You'll also work closely with other NHS services, local authorities, and voluntary organisations to support joined-up care.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to provide medical and psychiatric leadership to the Community LD Team for the West locality & provide a specialist psychiatric service for inpatient and community assessment & treatment for adults with a learning disability residing in the West locality (community) and Surrey-wide (inpatient), & for the outpatient clinical care for adults with a learning disability in the catchment area.

You will be required to visit homes & residential day services for adults with a learning disability in the catchment area as necessary & attend relevant team meetings within the Community LD Service, contribute to multidisciplinary & multi-agency assessment & care planning & participate in team activities & further development of the service.

Providing consultation & support to all members of the Team, Service Manager, Voluntary & Private Organisations, Day & Residential Services, Carers, Care Staff & relatives & to offer advice & consultation to medical colleagues, including psychiatrists, other medical specialists and GPs, regarding the psychiatry of LD & respond appropriately to emergency referrals.

  • Full medical registration with a license to practice.
  • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act(or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent
  • MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills.
