Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Assistant Psychologist

The closing date is 27 June 2025

Job summary

We are seeking 2 dynamic Psychology Graduates to join our Trust-wide Adult Eating Disorders Service (AEDS). These are substantive posts which have become available due to the existing postholders having successfully secured places on clinical psychology doctorate training programmes.

One of the posts is 1.0 WTE and the other is 0.8 WTE. Both roles will be primarily based at our main service hub at Farnham Road Hospital, Guildford. However, there will additionally be a requirement to complete home visits and to sometimes work from our Leatherhead site.

Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has close links with The University of Surrey and the service often provides placements to the Clinical Doctorate course. The posts are well suited to applicants interested in pursuing a career in clinical/counselling psychology.

The successful applicants will hold at least an upper second-class psychology degree and will ideally have experience of working in the NHS, as well as in a mental health setting. In addition, an interest in the field of eating disorders, good communication skills and excellent IT skills are essential. The ability to drive a car and access to a car during working hours is also required due to the requirement to sometimes travel between the AEDS sites (in Guildford and Leatherhead), to undertake home visits, and to occasionally also visit other Trust sites.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will be joining well-established outpatient and day care facilities for working age adults with moderate to severe eating disorders. They will also contribute to the delivery of the enhanced treatment pathway which is an exciting new multidisciplinary initiative developed to reduce hospital admissions and providing a flexible alternative to day care.

The new post holders will be expected to carry out a range of duties. These duties will include conducting audits, outcomes collation, service evaluations, and appropriate clinical duties (e.g., the delivery of Guided Self Help under supervision, co-facilitating groups with a prescribed protocol, supporting qualified clinicians with assessment processes, and contributing to meal supervision within day care and as part of the enhanced treatment pathway). All duties will be undertaken with regular supervision from the qualified Clinical Psychologists and with additional support from other members of the multidisciplinary team.
