Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join the Specialist Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery team at Ashford and St Peter's Hospital, Surrey.

This is a rewarding opportunity to become part of a dynamic and passionate multi-disciplinary team supporting patients with complex physical and psychological health needs.

You will be joining a well-established group of Psychologists working closely with Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Physicians, Specialist Nurses, Dietitians and Physiotherapists, as well as a wider network of Health Psychologists across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will support patients before and after medical or surgical weight loss interventions. Key aspects of the role include:

  • Individual formulation-based psychological assessment and intervention for patients with complex presentations
  • Delivering group interventions to support preparation for surgery and adjustment to weight loss treatments
  • Attending and contributing to multi-disciplinary meetings and decision-making forums
  • Offering supervision, training and consultation to non-psychology colleagues
  • Liaising with external services as needed

You'll be encouraged to contribute to service development and clinical research, and to take an active role in shaping innovative approaches to care. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience or interest in contextual behavioural approaches (e.g. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy) and embedding psychological thinking into multi-disciplinary work.

  • Current practising certificate (HCPC).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Experience

  • oExperience of working with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course and with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • oExperience of psychological assessment and intervention with people who have had acute and / or chronic physical health conditions
  • oExperience of administration and interpretation of standardized psychological assessments.
  • oExperience of delivering teaching/training of psychological knowledge and skills to professionals of another discipline.

  • oExperience of using psychologically informed approaches to helping individuals to cope and adjust.
  • oExperience of working within a physical healthcare setting or acute medical settings
