Job summary

We are looking for two enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Psychologists to join the Community Team for people with learning disabilities in East Surrey. Fixed Term - 12 Months.

The successful applicants must have a good honours degree in psychology and ideally some experience of working with learning disabilities. We are also looking for you to have an understanding of psychology applied to health care and an ability to apply your psychological knowledge to the learning disability health context. You must be motivated, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work individually as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team by undertaking work with service users, carers, family members and other agencies.

There is an emphasis on the importance of clinical supervision and continued professional development, which we regard as a vital part of the delivery of care. You will be part of an innovative and dynamic team which utilises an evidence-based psychological perspective. We'll support and encourage you to develop specialist experience and expertise, and actively encourage research with a view to publication.

Successful applicants require a full driving license and access to a car due to the community element of the role. CTPLD East has 2 bases and travel is required between them both.

Main duties of the job

These CTPLD roles are promoting health and independence for people with learning disabilities by providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions, and assisting in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of outcome statistics, and/or other project work as appropriate under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist working within the service. Working within a Positive Behaviour Support framework to provide accessible, non-stigmatising, localised service that contributes to the specialist health care of people with learning disabilities. A vital part of the role will be to support the person with learning disabilities and their families/ support staff to ensure that people maintain a good quality of life. Primarily to assist in clinically related administration, including the development of systems to monitor and report on specific work stream aimed at supporting CCGs and health and social care teams to better identify and support individuals with a learning disability who are at risk of early onset dementia. To support the delivery of dementia assessments for individuals with learning disabilities and subsequent reports of findings.To support the development and delivery of dementia training for a range of relevant services.
