Lead Nurse: The Deacon Unit
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced RNLD / RMN who is highly motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic to join the team at The Deacon Unit, Epsom as the Lead Nurse. The team provides assessment and treatment for people with learning disabilities who are experiencing a mental health breakdown.
The Deacon Unit is our inpatient unit, which is part of the Intensive Support Service, within the Trust's Learning Disabilities Directorate. The Multi-Disciplinary Team include Nursing, Senior Support Workers, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Psychology, Psychiatry, Therapy Assistants and assistant Psychologist.
The key tasks for the post holder are to provide clinical leadership. This will include chairing clinical reviews and any other relevant clinical meetings as per our inpatient pathway.
Candidate should have sound skills and competencies in line with the job description and knowledge and skills framework. The post will offer excellent opportunities for development and opportunities for joint working with other disciplines and agencies would be an integral part to the role.

Main duties of the job
To plan and deliver a highly specialist nursing service (in leadership or advanced nurse role) and to oversee its clinical governance.
To work alongside the manager for the professional leadership and continued development of a team I service area.
To ensure that the healthcare needs of people with learning disabilities are communicated to service commissioners and providers. To positively contribute to divisional developments in relation to nursing practice. To advocate and represent the service.
To demonstrate highly specialist nursing knowledge and skills in areas associated with learning disability such as crisis intervention, alternative communication, the assessment and management of people with additional mental health needs, epilepsy, medication management, challenging behaviour and other conditions.
To actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.
To practice within the Positive Behaviour Support framework.
To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans.
