The Specialty Doctor will be employed by Surrey & Borders Partnership NHS Trust for Liaison Psychiatry at East Surrey Hospital, joining the multidisciplinary team.The Specialty Doctor is expected to familiarize themselves with most working-age adults (WAA) cases & have clinical oversight of their psychiatric care while under the service. The team includes psychiatric liaison practitioners, mainly those with a nursing background, who focus on the WAA caseload to provide continuity & WAA expertise, with a degree of overlap between the OA & WAA nursing staff according to the needs of the service. The Specialty Doctor will report to both WAA & OA consultants.

- NHS Specialty grade £59,175 - £95,400 per annum + £149 fringe + on- call requirement

Main duties of the job
The speciality doctor, under the guidance of the consultants, will be expected to support the existing staff in assessing, diagnosing & managing referrals for working-age adults presenting with mental health problems in East Surrey Hospital & to provide medical expertise and support to staff involved in looking after patients with functional & organic mental health problems presenting in the acute hospital.
The role will also support the existing liaison team in deciding the most appropriate intervention for patients referred to the service. This will include facilitating discharge planning & timely communication with Primary Care, CMHRSs or Inpatient Services. The clinical work will involve the assessment & psychiatric treatment of patients directly or through the supervision of other team members.

- MB BS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
- Full medical registration with a license to practice
- Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent
Desirable
- Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills

- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
