Job summary

We are excited to offer opportunity for psychology graduates to join our working age adult community mental health service a Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAPS) Apprentice.CAP is a new psychology profession playing an invaluable role in providing evidence-based psychological interventions to people with mental health needs.The CAP Apprenticeship programme will be undertaken in partnership with the University of Plymouth where an MSc Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) is completed. This is an 18-month, full-time, training programme during which your time will be split between (virtual) academic learning and work-based practice and learning, under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist. As one of our new CAP apprentices you will be employed on a permanent NHS contract by Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust. Whilst undertaking the CAP Masters Programme you will be paid at Band 5, progressing to band 6 on successful completion of the program. In addition to your salary, all training registration and course fees are paid for you.We would expect that once qualified and your apprenticeship has been successfully completed, you commit to stay with the Trust for at least a further two years.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a structured programme of learning over a period of 18 months, including personal study, academic work, research, placement learning and assessment leading to the award of the MSc in Clinical Associate Psychology.

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of people who use services by providing psychological assessments, treatments, and other types of clinical intervention appropriate to this level of training with individual clients/groups, initially under weekly supervision, moving toward independent work as the course progresses.   • oA minimum 2:2 first degree in Psychology, or an equivalent conversion course accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). Applicants should be eligible for BPS Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) and will need to have or applied for Graduate Membership for entry to the programme
  • oMinimum of a level 2 English and Mathematics qualification (GCSE grade C/4 or functional skills)
  • oYou have ordinarily lived in the UK / EU / EEA for a minimum of 3 years prior to enrolling onto Apprenticeships.
  • oYou must not currently be on any publicly funded training program and must be 2 years post any previously attended publicly funded psychology training as stipulated by HEE (https://www.hee.nhs.uk/our-work/mental-health/psychological-professions/funding-psychological-professions-training-programmes)
