Job summary
The primary role of the research nurse is to support a portfolio of mental health and dementia clinical trials across the Trust. You will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for people who use our services and carers participating in clinical trials, be directly involved in the recruitment, education, and monitoring of trial participants, collecting and preparing biological samples as per protocol and in the collection and documentation of accurate data.
Main duties of the job
Clinical skills
- Obtain venous blood samples and process blood samples according to trial specific protocol.
- Obtain and document vital signs.
- Perform 12 leads ECG.
Communication
- Work autonomously .
- Identify suitable people for entry into clinical trials.
- Maintain accurate documentation .
- Provide ongoing information, education and support to participants.
- Ensure that trial specific investigations are undertaken as required by the trial protocol.
- Ensure safe administration of study IMP.
- Monitor treatment toxicity/side effects. and inform study PI.
- Report and record adverse events.
Research
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to promote research.
- Implement and adhere to the principles of the International Conference of Harmonisation and Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP), research governance standards and UK Clinical Trial Regulations.
- Identify and screen for potential research participants.
- Identify strategies for the recruitment of people who use our services into trials.
- Ensure that data is accurately collected and appropriately stored into databases.
- Ensure that follow up visits for research participants are conducted according to study protocol.
- Act as a role model for excellence in the research process.
Education
- To be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness.
