Job summary

This is an exciting new post created within our GP Integrated Mental Health Teams (GPimhs), as part of the Community Mental Health Transformation Programme (CMHTP) at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SABP).

We would welcome applicants who have a special interest in working with people with complex mental health needs within primary care, their carers and the wider systems around them. We are seeking a clinician who is a strong team player and can work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of the service as the transformation programme evolves.

We have two vacancies for Band 8a Senior Clinical Psychologists for the Primary Care Networks (PCNs) within the following two larger Integrated Care Provider (ICP) areas.

  1. Covering PCNs within the East Surrey ICP and Surrey Downs ICP
  2. Covering PCNs within the Northwest Surrey ICP and Guildford & Waverley ICP

The post-holder will be required to work flexibly within their respective area with a mix of face to face and virtual working and attendance at Trust HQ in Leatherhead as required.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for promoting the psychological health and well-being of clients in the GP Integrated Mental Health Service (GPimhs) and to provide specialist guidance, consultation and training to MDT members when required.
  • To support the promotion of partnership working with Voluntary and Social Care agencies and the development of pathways between services.
  • To clinically supervise Mental Health Practitioners and Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners and support the development of these roles within GPimhs
  • To directly provide and co-ordinate staff support structures such as Reflective Practice and training opportunities for the wider MDT
  • To deliver brief assessment, formulation and tailored evidence-based interventions to service users accessing GPimhs teams both individually and in groups and face to face or virtually as needed or appropriate.
  • To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development

  • To carry out comprehensive psychological and cognitive assessments and formulation, plan implement and evaluate delivery of psychology interventions and consultations to support people with specific and complex needs.
  • To actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.
  • To work creatively to adapt verbal and written communication to meet the needs of people who use our services
  • To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans for people with complex needs.
  • To establish and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with colleagues, other agencies , people who use services and their carers and support staff.
