Job summary

The CYPS Crisis Line supports young people, who are experiencing emotional and mental health crisis. Young people, their families or carers and our acute colleagues can call and receive advice, support and signposting 24 hours a day.

The CYPS Crisis Line is an expanding service, having been launched just over a year ago with exciting opportunities and developments available within our small but friendly staff team.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role are taking calls from young people, their families or carers and our acute colleagues, taking time to understand the needs of the young person, assessing risk and making a plan with the young person to help manage the immediate crisis. You will liaise with any services the young person is working alongside or be able to signpost, ensuring clear and concise documentation is completed.

Taking calls from our acute colleagues out of hours, you will be able to advise and safety plan, looking to support young people being safety discharged where clinically safe to do so and liaise with our Crisis Intervention Service to offer a follow up assessment the following day. Where this isn't appropriate, you will be able to offer advice regarding the support the young person may need overnight.

You will be confident and competent engaging with young people, assessing needs including safe guarding, risks and making safety plans with young people and there families. You will receive regular supervision and have access to training to support your own learning needs and development.

  • Post graduate in nursing, social work or occupational therapy- professional body registration required.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years post graduate experience working in the relevant field
  • Undertaking mental health assessments, risk assessments and treatment of CYPS
  • Evidence of post qualification study
  • Understanding of family functioning Knowledge and awareness of Safeguarding procedures
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Willingness to complete mentorship course
  • Experience of working with young people would be of benefit
  • Previous experience of working within crisis services
