Job summary
The role of the HCA will be within the Developmental Paediatric Service based at Unither House Chertsey, to support the Paediatricians with their out patient clinics. This will include Admin tasks as well as performing HCA duties, such as collecting physicals for the young person prior to seeing the Paediatrician. You will be the first person that the child and their families have contact with upon arrival at Unither. You will need to have good communication skills and be able to reassure the families and engage with the children attending the clinic. DPS see young children from birth to age 18years, the young people have a variety of often complex diagnosis and at varying developmental levels. The Service also provides the Non Accidental Injury Medicals for Safeguarding Children, there would be an expectation that you support this process and chaperone the Paediatrician.
Main duties of the job
To receive the children and families as they arrive, to capture any physical checks that have been requested, such as height weight blood pressure for example. You will then be required to enter these details onto the patient electronic record system EMIS, there is a need for accuracy in recording and collecting this information. You will support the Paediatrician as they request during appointments, and ensure that the clinic room is set up prior to appointments and during clinic. You may be required to perform some admin tasks related to the DPS , you will need to be able to use word and have basic admin skills.
You will also support and chaperone the Non Accidental Injury Medicals that are provided by the DPS . These medicals can be lengthy and quite complex, the young people and their families are often distressed at being required to attend. You may be asked to collate the physicals for the young person, and then during the process you may be chaperoning or supporting the young person whilst the Paediatrician speaks to the families confidentially. Being able to communicate with young people who are of varying capabilities and engage with them is required . There is also the potential that on occasion should the medical run past 5pm you have the flexibility to work over your hours for which you would have the option to be remunerated or have the hours as time in lue.
