Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced B7 nurse to join our forward thinking, progressive Nursing Team as a ward manager/ shift leader responsible for the clinical management of our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on a shift by shift basis.
We are looking for an experienced ICU nurse to lead the nursing team and support the Matron in ICU.
To have joint responsibility of the Unit Sisters/charge nurses for the operational management and service delivery processes within the Critical Care Unit. This includes line management of staff, managing and monitoring resources within a defined budget and contributing to the corporate agenda.
To lead and promote a quality service using research and evidence based practice including the setting and monitoring of clinical standards. To act as the senior clinical lead within the Unit on a shift basis. To ensure safe staffing within the unit. Rotation onto night and day shifts. Involved in quality improvement project.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be one of the Team Leaders responsible for the continuous day to day clinical management of Critical Care.
- To be responsible for the immediate management of critically ill patients in the department and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team ensure that patients receive optimum care.
- The post holder will support the matron in developing the service and providing support and motivation to the team. To lead by example as an expert practitioner.
- This includes line management of team members, managing and monitoring resources within a defined budget and contributing to the corporate agenda.
- To lead and promote a quality service using research and evidence-based practice including the setting and monitoring of clinical standards.
- To actively involved with multi-professional teams in need of Critical Care guidance for acutely unwell patients.
You will contribute to key organisational priorities, including:
- Enhancing the patient experience and improving outcomes
- Supporting improved patient flow
- Reducing sickness levels
- Ensuring safe and effective staffing and workforce deployment
Your responsibilities will also include:
- Supporting and developing the ICU nursing team
- Championing high-quality, patient-centred care
- Leading quality improvement initiatives and service development
- Fostering a positive culture, teamwork and professional practice
- Playing a key part in embedding ways of working within our ICU environment.
