Bank Biomedical Scientist (8 months)

Job summary

The Immunology Department, Berkshire Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS), has a full-time BANK Biomedical Scientist (Band 5) vacancy for 8 months.

We are a busy diagnostic department based at St Peter's Hospital which currently handles over 300,000 samples per year including many from referral hospitals. The laboratory hours are 7am - 7pm Monday to Friday and 9am-1pm Saturday, you would be required to work 37.5 hours a week covering these hours on a rotational basis.

Your main role would be to be part of the team verifying 3 new Phadia analysers; Phadia 2500EE, Phadia100 and Phadia250. Experience in any of these analysers would be advantageous. You may be trained in other areas of the laboratory, namely flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, ELISA, protein electrophoresis, according to service need and experience.

Applicants must be HCPC state registered .

Main duties of the job

You would work primarily on the Phadia 2500EE, 1000 and 250 but may participate in rotation with other staff in all sections of the laboratory, namely autoimmune serology, allergy, protein electrophoresis and cellular.

Applicants must demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised, a knowledge of laboratory based computers, audits, SOPs, ISO standards, quality; you must also be able to demonstrate good technical proficiency and current evidence of CPD.

Essential qualities we require are an ability to work within a team, and good communication skills. You must demonstrate that you are able to work under pressure, work within a team and meet deadlines, be flexible and adaptable and show that you are motivated and willing to develop your knowledge and skills.
