Job summary
The post holder will be able to promote and support the delivery of a quality nursing service, setting and monitoring clinical standards in the Infusion Suite. They will also be responsible for the nursing care of patients attending the day unit including the administration of SACT (systemic anti-cancer treatment) and supportive treatments. The post holder will be able to support the coordination and management of staff and facilitate training, educational and development needs. In addition, to work as a senior staff nurse and deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse when needed
Main duties of the job
Support the Infusion Suite Manager in leading and supervising a safe, high standard of nursing practice and the delivery of evidenced based patient care in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, the Trust's Strategy for Nursing and Trust/Unit Policies and Procedures.
Assist the Infusion Suite Manager in providing and developing good nursing practice ensuring that practices are in accordance with department and hospital policy.
Be competent in the administration of chemotherapy and carrying out procedures such as Venesection, Cannulation, venepuncture and central venous access devices (CVAD).
Determine nursing care priorities, planning the delivery of patient care taking into account the skill mix of staff.
Have clinical expertise in administering the range of chemotherapy regimens and complex infusions for medical, cancer and haematology patients.
Demonstrate advanced communication skills in liaising with clinical teams, patients and their next of kin, and knowledge of side effects.
Assess and escalate the potential side effects of treatments, demonstrating clinical understanding of the significance of the patient's clinical observations and condition.
Liaise with the pharmacy aseptic unit to ensure treatments are ready for patients to receive to ensure patients waiting times are kept to a minimum.
