Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our paediatric dietetic team at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Specialist Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian.

This established post offers an exciting opportunity to lead and continue to develop a high-quality, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic service for children and young people across North West Surrey. The role will primarily focus on outpatient care but will also support paediatric inpatients, ensuring continuity of nutritional support throughout their healthcare journey. You will work closely with paediatric diabetes multidisciplinary team at Ashford and St Peter's and and wider paediatric team.

As the Specialist Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian, this role is responsible for developing and delivering a specialist, evidence-based paediatric diabetes dietetic service including care for patients on insulin pump therapy. The post holder provides the dietary component of structured education for newly diagnosed children and young people with type 1 diabetes, covering carbohydrate counting and exercise management. The role involves offering dietary advice for patients using insulin pumps, glucose monitors, and hybrid closed-loop systems.

Main duties of the job

1. To contribute to the development of an effective and innovative dietetic service to children and young people with diabetes using a high level of knowledge, skill and experience.

2. To be responsible for the provision of highly specialised dietetic service to paediatric patients with Type 1 diabetes requiring nutritional intervention

3. To be responsible for the delivery of a high quality, evidence-based dietetic service to a complex case load of children and young people with diabetes in a variety of settings.

4. To provide specialist input to the Diabetes Multi-disciplinary Team by contributing to the strategic development of the Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes service, to meet the requirements of the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit and training of other health professionals.
