Job summary
We are seeking a suitably qualified Cardiac Physiologist to join our team at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fixed term post maternity cover. We are a very active department providing a wide range of investigations and are looking to expand our team of multi-skilled cardiac physiologists as our Invasive services expand.
We have a busy Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow-up service. The post holder will still benefit from the opportunity to rotate through all aspects of the department. We are the leading implant centre in Surrey for ICDs and CRTs with an extensive remotely-monitored patient population. The post holder will also rotate for our 24/7 PPCI service.
Applicants should have an extensive bradycardia and complex pacing post qualification experience including remote monitoring and FSN management. BSc in Clinical Physiology/ HTEC MPPM (or equivalent) and RCCP registration is desirable. Extensive knowledge and experience in invasive techniques are essential. Further post-graduate learning for CRM is also essential (HRUK/IBHRE). Successful applicants would be expected to potentially rotate across both sites.

Main duties of the job
- To have and extensive experience in Echocardiography and in the echocardiography service across both hospital sites alongside with the Operations Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist, whilst working alongside other physiologists to ensure delivery of a quality clinical service.
- Must be BSE accredited and undertake, supervise, and teach at a high level TTEs
- To assist with TOE, Bubble Studies, and Stress Echoes. To eventually perform and join the Physiologist -led Bubbles studies and Dobutamine Stress Echoes
- To maintain a progressive learning environment and ensure the development of all members of the department.
- To provide and partake in 7-day echo service and work weekends on a rotational basis

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
- To participate in the provision of the full, technical echo service with BSE accreditation. Where a candidate does not have BSE accreditation, funding will be provided and, where BSE accreditation is achieved, the applicant will be contracted to stay within the department for one-year post-accreditation. Early resignation will be associated with potential reimbursements for BSE courses and exam fees to the department.
- To provide an efficient running of the technical service by prioritising daily workloads.
- To maintain standards of technical competency in the provision of non-invasive, technical cardiac procedures.
- To take joint responsibility for the review and prioritising of inpatient requests for echocardiograms on a daily basis by liaising with ward/medical staff and ensuring availability of technical staff and resources.
- To jointly oversee the day to day running of the echo service, ensuring that all equipment is operational, clean, and that stock levels are adequate.
- To be jointly responsible for the management of equipment faults, and directly resolve these with the relevant company engineers.
- To be jointly responsible for the service contract and servicing of all echo equipment.
- To provide first line interpretation and full technical reports of individual tests performed whilst reviewing/assisting with the reporting of studies performed by junior staff members.
- To effectively, promptly, and professionally respond to emergency situations maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
- To assist with research studies as required.
- To remain up to date with latest trends in clinical physiology translating these into practice and transferring this knowledge to staff.

Managerial:

- To jointly manage the echo department alongside the second Lead Echo Cardiac Physiologist
- To be responsible for the management of junior cardiac physiology echo personnel.
- To assist with the recruitment and retention of all staff within the department.
- To assist with all aspects of the organisation and performance of the echocardiography service and provide management of the echo rota including weekend working hours.
- To work with the Operations Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist to ensure procedures are in place to achieve Government targets within the service.
- To develop protocols, guidelines, and policies within the department in order to achieve IQIPS accreditation.
- To develop protocols, guidelines, and policies within the department in order to achieve departmental BSE and/or European accreditation.
- To implement local policies and guidelines and ensure these are adhered to at all times and ensure these incorporate current professional recommendations and evidence based practice.
- To work in accordance with standards set by the British Society for Echocardiography, the Society for Cardiological Sciences and Technology (SCST), and the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP)
- To be familiar with the use of PAS, PRISM, CRIS, Cerner and any other computerised systems integral to the running of the department.
- To communicate with manufacturers regarding stock and equipment management; ensuring adequate stock control and that staff are aware of economical use of supplies.
- To manage own time to achieve a balance between clinical and administrative duties.
