Job summary

The Urgent Treatment Centre at St Peters Emergency Department extremely passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. To achieve this, we are looking to recruit Band 7 Emergency Practitioners and Band 6 Junior Emergency Practitioners to complement our existing team. Whether you are looking for Full time, Part Time or Bank hours, we are looking for enthusiastic individuals who have a proven urgent and emergency care background and can provide a complete package of excellent care whilst working under pressure. As a clinician within the Urgent Treatment Centre, you will work as an independent, autonomous practitioner providing consistent high quality, evidence based, timely, patient centred care. Responsible for utilising expert diagnostic and clinical skills to provide autonomous, unscheduled medical care and management of a diverse range of patients with acute undifferentiated and undiagnosed illnesses and injuries. The ability to use your initiative, work proactively, demonstrate excellent clinical skills and communication skills, be part of the team but at the same time prioritising your own workload and responding flexibly to changing demands are essential requirements of the role.

Main duties of the job

The primary focus is to work as an independent practitioner providing consistently high-quality and timely patient-centred care.

  • To be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral and discharge of a diverse range of patients with injuries/illnesses without reference to a doctor and within their level of competence and agreed protocols.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Ordering radiological imaging Making referrals to other health care professionals. Prescribing medicines (if qualified to do so) / using PGDs and performing treatments.
  • To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and to be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care. To be accountable for the management of resources and the performance of staff.
  • To be responsible for the implementation of Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.
  • To promote and maintain contacts with internal and external members of the Trust multidisciplinary team (MDT) through Link Roles.
  • To promote and participate in the implementation of the ASPH Nursing & Midwifery Strategy and Core Standards and contribute towards achieving the Trust's Objectives and maintaining the Trust's Values. To provide education and mentorship for the development of staff aimed at delivering evidence-based practice, supporting and promoting staff development and high-quality patient care.
