Job summary
Applications are invited for a Service Manager for the Emergency Department at Ashford and St Peter's Hospital. This is an extremely busy but exciting role and will offer good development opportunities for the right candidate.
You will work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead and Matrons as an integral part of an effective and patient focused triumvirate team to support excellent quality patient care and experience. You will be able to manage and successfully deliver your competing priorities to agreed deadlines in a role where day to day pressures continually fluctuate depending upon demand. You will contribute to the delivery of a clear strategic direction for the ED, effectively manage your finances, and deliver long term transformational improvements in collaboration with clinical colleagues.
We are looking for a collaborative, enthusiastic and proactive leader; a self-starter with extensive NHS management skills and/or experience of working in a similar NHS operational or clinical management role. Emergency or urgent care experience will be an advantage.
It is essential that you are able to work flexibly, including weekends/bank holidays on occasion to support the department. Time off will be given in lieu.

Main duties of the job
Overview of Responsibilities:
To provide timely, effective, proactive operational management support
Assisting the lead clinicians and senior managers as required and ensuring that the Department functions in a responsive, innovative way, and provides the highest possible clinical and performance standards.
To support the Associate Director of Operations ensuring that all performance, finance and quality targets are achieved. Developing and implanting lasting solutions to challenges in conjunction with clinical and managerial colleagues.
Full understanding of the Department's performance, with the ability to provide regular performance and operational reports for both internal and external distribution. The post holder will oversee and support the management of a team of administrative staff across the Department. To work closely with the Lead Nurse/Matron and the Divisional Director for specialty department to ensure that the department is fully compliant with statutory national and local targets.
Evaluate service delivery against projected activity
Key Result Areas:
To have made an effective contribution to reaching the Trust's vision, strategic objectives and key work programmes.
To provide leadership and management of specified clinical services.
Ensure continuous improvement.
