Main duties of the job

Lead the inpatient maternity team, ensuring exceptional care standards.

Manage staffing levels, quality improvement and support professional development.

Oversee patient care pathways, ensuring safety and a positive experience.

Ensure compliance with local policy and guidance.

Participate in service development and improvement initiatives.

Take on the role of 'Bleep Holder' and manage the overall unit demands in relation to acuity, staffing and safety.
The post holder will be expected to be part of the on call 'Hands on help' rota within the unit.

Undertake clinical activity to satisfy NMC requirements for registration, act as a role model by maintaining clinical competence and credibility through evidenced based clinical practice.
Will lead and co-ordinate the clinical activities of the midwifery team in their area particularly in line with Government initiatives and Trust Strategy.
Responsible for the effective implementation of the Trusts Risk Management and Clinical Governance Strategies within the ward.
Will be responsible for the appropriate deployment of staff and effective time management.
Responsible for undertaking clinical audits on the ward and ensuring that they are submitted within the nominated timeframe. To ensure that where necessary the results are escalated in a timely manner to the senior management team.
Will demonstrate excellent communication skills ensuring effective liaison with internal and external agencies, including ICBs etc. Provide guidance and support to staff to achieve a confident, competent work force.
Liaise effectively with Clinical Managers, highlighting areas of concern in a timely fashion and taking action where appropriate to reduce concern.
Will work with all staff to provide a culture that is developmental, flexible and supportive.
Will support and assist the Midwifery Management Team in developing the Maternity Services in line with national recommendations and local initiatives.
