Job summary

An exciting development opportunity has arisen for an Matron Cover of our Intrapartum services. We are looking for a compassionate, dynamic, experienced, midwife, who will be committed in promoting and nurturing a culture of Civility in the workplace.

We are proud to be able to offer a variety of opportunities and have a fantastic alongside Birth Centre, a Labour ward with a level 3 NICU, and an established continuity of care team in Complex Care.

The Matron for Intrapartum Care will be an integral member of the senior leadership team, responsible for the provision of high-quality care, the day-to-day operational management of the service, implementing the Trust's strategy alongside national, regional, and local drivers for improvement.

With transformational leadership skills and extensive midwifery experience, the matron will provide professional, clinical, and managerial leadership across the intrapartum services, and work in collaboration with the MDT and the wider matron team.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will support the delivery of strong visible clinical leadership, promoting professional advice and guidance to all maternity staff, to ensure the highest standards of woman centered care are delivered in our service.

The Matron's role is fundamental to supporting the Divisional Director of Midwifery and Neonatal Services in transforming the maternity services and leading quality improvement and assurance processes which underpin the provision of safe, effective, maternity care.

You will be a credible leader, have current operational clinical management experience and be able to initiate and implement change and innovation in practice, demonstrating a supportive and flexible leadership approach to influence and sustain high care standards, safety and quality.

The Matron for Intrapartum Care will be a significantly autonomous professional clinical manager, responsible to the Trust for the multiple clinical services within the Labour Ward, Triage, Obstetric Theatres, and Call the Midwife Advice Line.

The post holder will have a strategic responsibility with the Divisional Director, to ensure business plans, budgets, and workforce and staff development are in place to deliver a quality service for the Division and Trust.

The post holder will represent the Maternity Services internally and externally as required on a regular basis and develop links with other managers and senior midwives/nurses.

The successful candidate will ensure that the Matrons principles are embedded in practice including:

  1. Public patient involvement
  2. Infection prevention and control
  3. Hospital cleanliness
  4. Care bundles
  5. Tissue viability
  6. Medicine Management
  7. Safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
  8. Patient experience
  9. Safeguarding agenda for children and adults
  10. Maternity Matters
