About Us: Led by Dr Saikia, our Specialty Lead for Respiratory, we take pride in our achievements, including specialized linked Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) for severe asthma and Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), fantastic working environments with outstanding feedback from respiratory juniors, a fully operational EBUS/bronchoscopy service, a thriving pleural service, and the recent development of a medical thoracoscopy service. We boast specialized services in TB, Sleep, and NIV, coupled with strong research links.
Our Team: We are a team of seven, friendly, flexible, and like-minded consultants eager to welcome a new colleague. Supported by experienced nursing and allied healthcare professionals, as well as a strong team of middle grades and juniors, we offer a fantastic development and coaching program for new consultants.

Main duties of the job
Direct Patient Care:
- Provide direct clinical care to patients across all departmental facets, actively contributing to clinical decision-making and sharing the workload equally among the consultant team.
- Ensure comprehensive senior clinical cover for the Respiratory Department.
Team Collaboration:
- Engage fully with the care of patients outside the department, offering prompt opinions upon request from consultant colleagues in other specialties.
- Collaborate with medical, nursing, and management teams to achieve departmental objectives, emphasizing clinical leadership and enhancing the patient experience.
Education and Training:
- Actively participate in departmental staff appraisal and support educational activities for medical and non-medical staff.
- Contribute to teaching sessions for hospital staff, both undergraduate and postgraduate, and supervise junior medical staff.
Learning and Development:
- Encourage and support consultants with special interests that align with department objectives, ensuring opportunities for learning and development.
- Participate in clinical audit activities, maintaining effective record-keeping.
- Undertake research and develop special interests within clinical and service workload limits.
- Engage in continuing medical education, both internally and externally, with appropriate study leave entitlement.
