Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and innovative Pharmacist to join our friendly, dynamic and professional pharmacy team.

You will enjoy a diverse role, focussing on formulary management (including medicines expenditure) and medicines governance, whilst also delivering a high-quality clinical pharmacy service to a specialist area.

You will support the development and local implementation of a Surrey wide medicines formulary and provide expert advice regarding medicines and formulary issues, as well as conducting audits, evaluations and reviews of prescribing practices.

You will work closely with clinicians and other stakeholders to ensure that our formulary is up-to-date, evidence-based, cost-effective and relevant and responsive to the needs of our patients and staff.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Pro-actively support the development of ASPH / Surrey Heartlands formularies.

    Ensure that medicines used are appropriate, safe and supported by high quality evidence, including the management of non-formulary drug use.

    Support the Trust with identifying and capitalising on medicines related Cost Improvement Programmes.

    Act as secretary to the ASPH Drug and therapeutics committee and support the Area Prescribing Committee.

    Support the provision of a high-quality clinical pharmacy service which meets the needs of patients and healthcare professionals within and associated with the Trusts.

    Support the development and implementation of medicines optimisation systems/practices.

    Provide specialist pharmacy advice and knowledge to entry and maintenance of drugs to the Trust's formulary.

    Undertake clinical supervision of pharmacy staff and teaching of nursing and medical staff.

    Act as a role model in the field of clinical pharmacy practice and provide a consistently high standard of clinical service to a nominated specialist area in line with the pharmacy objectives.

    Perform any pharmacy function for which they assume responsibility to a high standard, this includes the clinical pharmacy, governance and financial support regarding the medicines use and expenditure.
