Faster Diagnostic Nurse for UGI/HPB

Job summary

  • Provide clinical support, expert care to patients, families and carers undergoing investigations for OG/HPB malignancies.
  • As a key worker, provide specialist advice, information and psychological support to patients with a new diagnosis of an OG/HPB malignancy, supporting the breaking bad news discussions.
  • Support the faster diagnosis and improved outcomes for patients on an OG/HPB pathway.
  • Support patient through the transition of care to the tertiary centre.
  • Positively impact the experience of patients and carers by providing high standards of clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Support patients through their cancer journey, through diagnosis on to treatment and survivorship.
  • Attend the MDT's, providing accurate patient information to help guide well informed treatment decisions. Update patients of MDT outcomes.
  • Support consultants in the delivery of a new cancer diagnosis, endoscopy or CT findings with support from senior staff if needed.
  • Delivery of Health Needs assessments within 6 weeks of a cancer diagnosis

  • oRelevant post registration experience at Band 6 , in cancer, and /or OG/HPB specialty nursing
  • oEvidence of advanced communications skills
  • oExperience of multi-professional working

Desirable

  • oPrevious Band 6 experience

Qualifications

  • oFirst level Nursing degree or equivalent knowledge, skills and competency gained through clinical experience working at a senior level
  • oEvidence of continued professional development
  • oWillingness to consider a master's degree or single module in a specialist cancer subject

Desirable

  • oPost-basic qualification in cancer nursing
  • oAdvanced communications skills training
