Be responsible for the organisation and performance of all aspects of the HPV Laboratory facility based on the SPH site.
Managing staff, equipment and finances in the most effective and efficient way whilst ensuring the provision of a high-quality service
Main duties of the job
To have the analytical and judgemental skills to be able to perform all appropriate technical procedures in use within the department and to work autonomously when taking the necessary steps in dealing with all technical operational problems which may arise.
To be able to analyse and communicate highly complex data from the incomplete lists monitoring our turnaround times and present it to management for their meetings with NHS screening programme and recommend any improvements needed to maintain good turnaround times for the department
To have the knowledge and experience required to assess new techniques and equipment for their suitability for adoption by the Cytology department and recommend to management the best for the department
To have the skills required for the supervision and instruction of BMS's and Medical Laboratory Assistants in accordance with departmental protocols. This will involve supervision of the team leaders managing the processing laboratory, staining room and workflow flow to the sorting room in conjunction with deputy lead biomedical scientist
To have the specialist knowledge and skills required to perform root cause analysis and corrective and preventative actions in the discharging of audit non-conformities and other non-conformities in line with BSPS protocols and accreditation standards.

To support the quality team by performing and assessing audits to assist with the ongoing process development of HPV Lab systems working closely with other senior members of the Cytology laboratory team to produce the data.
To have the specialist training and skills required to conduct appraisals of laboratory staff, develop training plans and help manage performance issues.
