Lay Chair for Appointment Advisory Committees (AAC's)
This job is now closed
Job summary
The recruitment of Medical Consultants to an NHS Trust is a key activity to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to the local population. We are seeking two Lay Chairs to lead our interview panels (a Lay Chair is someone who is not an employee of the Trust). This is an important decision-making process and supports our ability to provide high quality safe care to our patients at Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The process we follow is defined in the Department of Health, The National Health Service (Appointment of Consultants) Regulations, 2005.
Our preference is for local candidates who have a commitment to supporting the local health economy and who are eligible for membership of the hospital, but welcome applicants from neighbouring counties or London who would provide a complementary perspective. You may have a background, or interest in, People Services, Recruitment or business from your previous / current career. You will want to support the Trust in delivering high quality patient services.
If you are enthusiastic and passionate about the challenges this opportunity offers and believe that you have the experience and ambition to play a key role in delivering our vision, values, and strategic objectives, then we would welcome an application from you. We particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups within our Community.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Lay Chair involves:
- Ensuring AACs are planned effectively, conducted according to the Trust policy and procedure, national regulations for AACs and that matters are dealt with in an orderly, efficient manner.
- Facilitating constructive and productive panel discussions, enabling all panel members to contribute to decision making and managing disagreements in assessment of candidates between panel members.
- Bringing independence, external perspectives, skills and challenge to ensure a robust selection process for consultant appointments.
- Ensure that key decisions around selection are objective, based upon the person specification and that these decisions can be justified.
