Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric Dietetic Department at the highly recognised Oxford Children's Hospital (John Radcliffe Hospital).

We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 Paediatric Dietitian to work with our dynamic team to provide a highly specialist dietetic service to paediatric patients at the Oxford Children's Hospital. You will be working with a busy, friendly and energetic team of 13 specialist paediatric dietitians covering both inpatient and outpatient settings and a dietetic administrator. We work alongside well-established specialist Multidisciplinary Teams contributing to the care of infants and children with varied clinical and complex conditions.

You should be able to demonstrate the ability to work within a changing environment, have good communication skills and provide evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to this post. Regular supervision and support will be provided.

This post will report to the Band 7 paediatric dietetic team lead work alongside band 6 colleagues. This post has the potential to cover a variety of clinical areas including gastroenterology, allergy, oncology, respiratory and cardiology as well as other specialities.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a comprehensive specialised paediatric dietetic service to children attending the Children's Hospital as in-patients, day cases or outpatients, in conjunction with the other Paediatric Dietitians.

Work as an integral member of relevant MDTs to ensure a holistic approach to patient care. This involves regular liaison with individual team members regarding specific issues of patient care e.g. discussion with clinicians and clinical nurse specialists (CNS) regarding treatment plans.

Assess the nutritional status of individual patients based on anthropometric measurements e.g. weight, height, weight history as well as biochemical parameters, diet history, reported symptoms and other methods of nutritional assessment as appropriate.

Provide individualised and complex specialist dietary information to children and their families with a wide range of conditions and therapeutic needs; counselling and supporting families in relation to the prescribed diet.

  • Support home enteral feeding accounts and handovers
  • Prescribe nutritional products in accordance with local formularies and hospital contracts.
