DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE / DUTIES:
Your role will involve the following service provision:
Inpatient care
o Providing medical management for all OMFS patients at the John Radcliffe hospital
Emergency OMFS service
o Including first on-call when holding the baton OMFS SHO bleep, managing referrals internally (from A&E and other wards) and externally (from primary care and referring hospitals) (Night on calls will include cross covering Plastic surgery as first on call from 8pm at night to 08:30 next day and handing over to their team)
o Assessing and managing patients on the GP Referral Unit (acute OMFS referrals)
Outpatient care
o Support pre-operative assessment clinic (which is Nurse led)
In addition, there will be opportunities to be involved in the following for educational and training purposes:
Specialist out-patient clinics
OMFS operating lists
Departmental teaching sessions
Clinical Governance meetings
Audit, Research and Quality Improvement
Anatomy Demonstrating and Medical Student teaching (affiliation with Oxford University)
Foundation Programme OMFS induction

Previous incumbents have been successful in signing off their Alternative Certificate of Foundation Competence and joining a training programme. This job is designed to give good exposure to all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery and on-call experience covering Plastic surgery.
Principal Responsibilities:
The care of emergencies, the care of patients on the wards, which may include private patients, appropriate to the grade of the post and under the direction of the responsible consultants. Attendance at ward rounds. Pre-clerking.
Description of Working Pattern:
Full shift system covering OMFS emergencies. This includes prospective cover for colleagues on annual or study leave. Additional cross-cover of Plastic surgery during the night on calls.
Teaching:

- Full UK GMC registration with licence to practice
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

- Attendance at relevant courses, e.g. ATLS

- Must have worked in the NHS in the UK prior to this appointment.
