Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for Band 6 Static Occupational Therapistwho has experience or a keen interest in working in the areas of Trauma and Plastics Inpatients.

You will be part of a well established team working as part of a supportive and friendly team providing high quality occupational therapy treatment.

Trauma Service

To work as part of the trauma and plastics therapy service and wider Major Trauma Centre.

You need to be able to demonstrate excellent team working and communication skills, flexibility to adapt to client needs, sound clinical reasoning, decision making and problem-solving skills.

Main duties of the job

You will be using a wide range of Occupational Therapy skills.

  • To assess and treat patients within the Trauma and Plastics services.
  • To assist OT Service Manager and Team Leaders in service development and the provision of a quality service.
  • To take responsibility for junior members of staff and delegate duties as necessary, providing appropriate level of support at all times.

You will have opportunities to develop your role within the role. Training and education are available to support this, and is supported by senior OT's.

Clinical

To undertake assessment, treatment, education and support for Trauma and Plastics Inpatient service patients and their carers.

This will involve clinical reasoning and autonomous complex decision making using best available evidence.

To provide holistic, timely Occupational Therapy intervention to facilitate safe hospital discharge.

To be able to justify rationale for provision or non-provision of adaptive equipment, demonstrating its safe use and care to patients, staff and carers. Provide support for junior staff regarding complex issues.

To have a day-to-day responsibility for managing a complex and diverse caseload and co-ordinating safe and effective patient discharge

To risk assess and undertake manual handling techniques involving patients and or equipment following appropriate training in line with organisational manual handling policies.

To organise, complete and document assessments in patients homes.

To provide occupational therapy treatment and intervention in a wide range of traumatic conditions based on theoretical knowledge and clinical experience.

To assist the Trauma Band 7 Occupational Therapist in the day-to-day supervision, education and support of Band 5 Occupational Therapists, Therapy Assistants and Occupational Therapy Students.

To assist the Trauma Band 7 Occupational Therapist and the Trauma and Orthopaedic Head of Therapies in the day-to-day delivery of the Trauma and Plastics Inpatient Therapy Service.

To support junior staff members to effectively manage their clinical caseload.

To enable patients to achieve effective coping and self-management skills.

To advise patients and carers or other health and social care professionals regarding adaptations to social and physical environments and make relevant referrals and recommendations to meet patient needs for safe hospital discharge.

To maintain accurate records on all aspects of occupational therapy intervention in compliance with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal College of Occupational Therapy and NHS guidelines.

To evaluate continuously Occupational Therapy intervention and to maintain a high standard of clinical and professional practice at all times.

To be able to identify own professional limitations and seek senior advice when appropriate.

To be able to provide and receive complex, sensitive, and contentious information such as discussing limitations associated with diagnosis/procedures/prognosis, managing complex discharges and providing appropriate emotional support

To comply with data activity recording in accordance with professional and Trust standards.

To promote the role of Occupational Therapy through integrated working and explaining role of Occupational Therapy to patient and carers.

To participate in the Weekend/Bank Holiday working rota as required.
