An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our Major Trauma Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
We are seeking a dynamic therapist to join our diverse Allied Health Professional team on our dedicated trauma ward. This role offers the chance to gain broad experience in trauma-focused Occupational Therapy, working with patients with varied and complex needs. Clinical presentations may include fragility fractures, polytrauma, head injury, spinal cord injury, plastic surgery, and amputation.
You will carry out evidence-based assessments and interventions to support recovery, promotewellbeingand maximise independence. The post requires the ability to adapt quickly within a busy environment and to work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team. Building strong partnerships with other agencies will be essential to ensure safe andappropriate dischargeplanning and continuity of care.

Clinical
- To undertake assessment, treatment, education and support for Trauma service patients and their carers.
- This will involve clinical reasoning and autonomous complex decision making using best available evidence.
- To provide holistic, timely OT intervention to facilitate safe hospital discharge.
- To be able to justify rationale for provision or non-provision of adaptive equipment, demonstrating its safe use and care to patients, staff and carers. Provide support for junior staff regarding complex issues.
- To have a day to day responsibility for managing a complex and diverse caseload and co-ordinating safe and effective patient discharge
- To risk assess and undertake manual handling techniques involving patients and or equipment following appropriate training in line with organisational manual handling policies.
- To organise, complete and document assessments in patients homes.
- To provide occupational therapy treatment and intervention in a wide range of traumatic conditions based on theoretical knowledge and clinical experience.
- To assist the Trauma Band 7 Occupational Therapist and the Trauma and Orthopaedic Head of Therapies in the day-to-day supervision, education and support of Band 5 Occupational Therapists, Therapy Assistants and Occupational Therapy Students.

- To advise patients and carers or other health and social care professionals regarding adaptations to social and physical environments and make relevant referrals and recommendations to meet patient needs for safe hospital discharge.
- To maintain accurate records on all aspects of occupational therapy intervention in compliance with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal College of Occupational Therapy and NHS guidelines.
- To evaluate continuously Occupational Therapy intervention and to maintain a high standard of clinical and professional practice at all times.

- To communicate with patients and their relatives/carers regarding interventions and treatment programmes.
- To give relevant information regarding assessment, treatment and outcomes, and where appropriate explain clinical reasoning to patients and their relatives/carers.
