Job summary

This new substantive post is an opportunity to join a nationally recognised centre for Parkinson's and movement disorders care, and to contribute to the implementation of advanced therapies, including Foslevodopa.

Applications are invited for a whole-time or part-time Consultant Neurologist post providing exciting opportunities in the care of people with Parkinson's disease and related movement disorders. The post will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, with sessions delivered across the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT) and supporting regional partners in the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire (BOB) Integrated Care System.

Main duties of the job

The postholder's duties will cover the breadth of service provision across several fields:

Clinical service provision

The postholder will run dedicated Parkinson's/movement disorder clinics, which include seeing new and follow up patients, leading and participating in advanced therapy services: Foslevodopa eligibility and follow-up clinics, MDT clinics, day-case foslevodopa/apomorphine infusion titration in conjunction with the PD nurse team, follow-up reviews. The postholder will also contribute to general neurology services, and APD services. Together with other movement disorders consultant colleagues, the postholder will support the Neurology specialist nurse team and pharmacist prescribers, contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings including advanced therapy MDTs, and liaise with gerontology colleagues. The postholder will also participate in the Neurology on-call rota and ward cover (1 in 13) at OUH.

Clinical Teaching/Research

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. Clinical Governance

The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audits, future BlueTeq submissions, service development, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities and service audits for advanced therapies as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies.

Personal and Professional Development

The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust. Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs.

The Trust has the required arrangements in place to ensure that all consultants have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports physicians going through the revalidation process.

Appraisal and revalidation is managed in OUHFT via the Medical Director's Office (mdo.business@ouh.nhs.uk or 01865 743216) who will provide detailed advice. The designated responsible officer is Professor Andrew Brent, Chief Medical Officer, OUHFT.

The trust offers a mentorship scheme to all new consultants to enable them to settle into their positions with one of the established consultants within the department.

Management

The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust's management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust. He/she will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients and the running of his/her clinical service under the direction of the lead clinician and/or directorate chair.
