Job summary

To provide the lead specialty within clinical and professional guidelines, in the provision of a comprehensive spectacle dispensing service.

? To manage and run the spectacle dispensing service within the Department of Optometry to the highest standards of quality and care.

? To undertake administrative duties as agreed with the Head of Optometry.

? To provide teaching and training for all disciplines within Oxford Eye Hospital.

? To undertake clinical audit of the dispensing service

Main duties of the job

1. To work unsupervised in all areas of

Ophthalmic dispensing.

a. Receiving and interpreting spectacle prescriptions for patients refracted within the Optometry Department. To carry out routine and complex spectacle dispensing. To discuss with the patient the spectacle prescription, its implications to their expected visual performance and to determine and dispense an appropriate frame and lens combination to meet the requirements of the patient.

b. Carrying out necessary lens calculation to obtain optimum visual performance and modify spectacle prescriptions within the parameters set out for Registered Dispensing Opticians by the Opticians Act 1989.

c. Providing highly specialised dispensing solutions as part of the overall management of a patient. e.g. trigeminal cups for dry eye management, spectacle mounted low vision appliances, safety eyewear, swimming goggles and sports eyewear, using acquired technical knowledge and skills

d. . To check and verify multiple parameters using specialised equipment on spectacle lenses, frame orders and contact lens orders against BS/EN standards and to take appropriate action when necessary

e To accurately take frame and facial measurements to ensure accuracy of fit for spectacle frames and correct positioning of lenses within the frames. .
