3. ACTIVITY: 40 hours/week, no on-call commitments

5. ACCOUNTABLE TO: Clinical Lead/Director

6. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES: To join the existing members of the Paediatric Haematology/Oncology team in providing a regional service for children with children's cancer and haematological disorders.

The post holder's duties will be primarily at the Children's Hospital Oxford (CHOX), located in the John Radcliffe (JR) Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations and outreach clinics. The post is also suited to someone with haematology experience (adult or paediatric) to develop their skills in paediatric haematology and oncology.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of Clinical Fellow:

Clinical:

The successful candidate will work at Higher Specilaity Trainee level and will be actively involved in the management of all patients aged 0-19 years, with a wide variety of solid and CNS tumours, malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions. Duties will include inpatient management, on-treatment and follow-up clinics on the oncology day ward and managing a twice weekly procedures general anaesthetic session including performing bone marrow apirates and trephines, and lumbar punctures with the administration of intrathecal chemotherapy.

The postholder will liaise with doctors and community nurses based in Oxfordshire and at the shared care units in the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance (TVCA). He/she will also be expected to develop the skills to prescribe chemotherapy (after appropriate training), attend various multi-disciplinary team meetings and organise procedures and investigations for patients.
