Main duties of the job

The pediatric cardiology department is a Level 2 unit serving Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and parts of Northamptonshire, Wiltshire, Warwickshire and Bedfordshire. Boundaries are indistinct but the population served is approximately 2.5 million. Currently patients are referred to Southampton and Great Ormond Street Hospital for surgery. We have a well-functioning Operation Delivery Network service with Southampton for cardiac services, PICU, Neurology and Neurosurgery.

The pediatric cardiology department has three modern echocardiography machines with 3D and transesophageal echocardiography. Facilities for cardio-pulmonary exercise testing are available. Diagnostic and interventional catheters are performed in Southampton in collaboration with colleagues from Southampton. We also have a complete ACHD service with clinics, diagnostic investigations and complex aortic surgery with interventions on site. Last year we referred approximately 120-140 patients for cardiac surgery to neighboring units. We have close links with the Academic department of Cardiovascular Medicine. In addition to general pediatric cardiology clinics the following specialist clinics are provided by the department of pediatric cardiology
