Job summary

A fixed term position for a GMC registered medical practitioner in the Maternity Directorate at the John Radcliffe Hospital has arisen. This post includes general duties in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The are four defined Special interest areas to be supported, including benign gynae operating, maternal medicine, Simulation and education training, and Chronic Pelvic Pain. The duties will include labour ward, antenatal and gynaecology clinics, fetal and maternal medicine clinics, elective theatre lists, obstetrics and gynaecology on call and special interest sessions. In addition, will involve the care and management of inpatients and outpatients in Obstetrics and Gynaecology under direct or indirect supervision of Consultants.

The post is full time. The ideal candidate will be an experienced clinician and a keen team worker. He or she will be interested in helping to offer service to pregnant women in line with the OUH Trust values. Experience in care of pregnant women is essential and a good understanding of the relevant national guidelines covering is desirable. Evidence of having passed MRCOG parts 1, 2 and 3 and experience at ST6/7 or equivalent level is desirable.

The appointee will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and Horton General Hospital, Banbury. This post involves duties in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in both units. This will include working in the Maternity Assessment Unit, Delivery Suite, Antenatal and Postnatal wards and Antenatal clinic, Gynaecology clinics, theatres. There will be the opportunity to undertake ATSMs, take part in departmental teaching, including MDT training and develop a specialist interest with SPA time included in your weekly sessions. This post includes 1 in 9 out of hours on-call commitment with compensatory rest and compliant with a 1b contract.

About us

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology provides maternity and gynaecology service to the Oxford region and is responsible for over 7000 deliveries per year. It is also a tertiary referral centre for district general hospitals in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Northamptonshire. This is an approved training centre for subspecialties in Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Urogynaecology and Reproductive Medicine. It has close links to the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Oxford. The Delivery Suite is covered at all times by three tiers of specialist trainees: ST1-2 (or GP trainee or Foundation doctor), ST3-5 and ST6-7. During office hours the senior tier (ST6-7) is covered by a Consultant Obstetrician. Neonatologists, obstetric anaesthetists, junior and middle grade obstetricians are available at all times. All obstetric consultants maintain an active Delivery Suite role. There is a large Tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Unit works closely with the High Risk Pregnancy Service. Induction Departmental induction will be arranged at the start of this post.
