Job summary
The Breast Unit in Oxford sees approximately 8,000 referrals per year with over600 newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer. They are treated at the CancerCentre at the Churchill Hospital, (which is also home to the NHS Breast ScreeningProgramme), and at the Horton Hospital in Banbury. We have an enthusiasticmultidisciplinary team with one stop clinics supported by 6 breast radiologists and3 breast pathologists, medical and clinical oncologists, cancer genetics, plasticsurgery and lymphoedema services.The fellow will be working under the supervision of 6 consultants (3 are part-time). The unit provides a full range of Oncoplastic breast surgery service incollaboration with the plastic surgery team, who provide a free-flap reconstructionservice
Main duties of the job
ElectiveThe post holder's duties will be across the various hospitals in the Trust. The post-holder will work predominantly on the Breast Unit as a senior fellow. Thesuccessful candidate will have regular access to operating lists, with exposure to thecomplete range of oncoplastic procedures; oncoplastic and results clinics fortraining in various aspects of planning and counselling patients for their appropriateoncological and reconstructive procedures. The post holder will be expected toprovide support to the diagnostic and follow-up clinicsResearch & Audit:The successful candidate will be expected to engage in the research and auditactivities of the department.Teaching:Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the postholder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students,training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. The post-holder's contributionto teaching, training, and research will be included in the regular job plan review.Clinical GovernanceThe post-holder will participate in clinical governance activities, including clinicalaudit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities asrequired by the Trust, Health Authorities, and external accrediting bodies.Personal and Professional DevelopmentThe post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust.
