Job summary
To Provide core support to dispensary staff in the dispensing of medicines to in-patients, out-patients and the supply of discharge medications. To include clinical trial and controlled drug dispensing.
Main duties of the job
To dispense inpatient, outpatient, clinical trial and controlled drug prescriptions according to dispensary procedures.
To use the Pharmacy Computer system to produce dispensing labels and to make stock issues, receipt and transfers.
To be responsible for unpacking deliveries and filling the automated dispensing system.
To be responsible for putting away dispensing stock including part packs and maintaining tidy storage areas.
To participate in extemporaneous dispensing e.g. preparing creams, ointments and liquid preparations .
To participate in the training and induction of pre-registration students and ATO's.
To participate in a programme of work based training, development and appraisal.
To participate in the development of the dispensary service.
To participate in the audit of the dispensary service.
To be involved in conducting checks of expiry dates and stock levels.
To maintain accurate records within the dispensary process e.g. clinical trial records, controlled drug registers.
To receive prescriptions from staff and patients at the dispensary hatch and process prescription payments.
To participate in late duties, weekend, evening and bank holiday working according to rota.
Any other duties as requested by the Senior Technician, Operational Manager or Clinical Director of Pharmacy.
