Job summary

We are looking for one Specialist Registrar (ST5-8 level) for a 12 month fixed term period from April 2025

We are looking for one Senior Clinical Fellow (ST7-8 level) for a 12 month fixed term period from July 2025.

The post supports the clinical activities of the Endocrine Surgery Unit as directed by the Clinical Director.

The unit carries out approximately 250 thyroid operations (including 20-25 neck dissections), 180-200 parathyroid operations and 100 adrenal operations (including retroperioneal) each year. In addition, the Fellow will gain experience in retroperitoneal sarcoma surgery.

Clinical responsibilities will include elective endocrine surgery, outpatient clinics, ward rounds and care of in-patients.

In addition, the successful candidate will be participate in the provision of an emergency surgery rota at the John Radcliffe Hospital (rota schedule to be provided closer to starting the job)

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • In year ST 7-8 of General Surgical training or equivalent

Desirable

  • FRCS

  • General training in General Surgery and Emergency/Trauma Surgery. General training in minimally invasive surgery. Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Skills

Desirable

  • Advanced training in Emergency General and Trauma Surgery Advanced training in minimally invasive surgery Previous experience in thyroid and parathyroid surgery

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent spoken and written English. Communication skills should be highly developed Computing skills: a good level of knowledge
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees
  • Experience of clinical audit

Desirable

  • Interest in clinical research with good record of publications.
