Job summary
This is a fixed term post for one year, with two/three posts running concurrently and working together. The post will provide extensive experience in the outpatient and inpatient diagnosis and management of pleural disease including medical thoracoscopy, IPC insertion and management, advanced ultrasound skills and image guided pleural biopsy. The post holder will also support the running of pleural and mesothelioma multidisciplinary team meetings.
Main duties of the job
The post holder's principal duties are based in:
Pleural Clinics - located in both the Respiratory Medicine outpatient clinic and in the Radiology Department, both at the Churchill Hospital site
The Respiratory Intervention Unit, located at the John Radcliffe Hospital where the interventional and diagnostic lists occur and the inpatient ward is based.

This post will provide sub-specialty experience in pleural disease and would be ideally suited to a Respiratory trainee as out-of-programme training during specialty training or as experience after completion of Respiratory training. The post is based within the Oxford Pleural Unit, at the Oxford Centre for Respiratory Medicine (OCRM), Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In addition to comprehensive training in pleural diseases and advanced pleural intervention, the post holder will provide support for the specialist Pleural Team and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), and the wider cancer MDT in the care and diagnosis of patients with pleural disease. The post holder will support the administrative responsibilities associated with regional cancer databases and delivery of the treatment targets within pleural disease. In addition to this clinical experience, the postholder will have the opportunity to participate in departmental education meetings and teaching within the Oxford Centre of Respiratory Medicine and the Oxford Pleural Unit and to be involved in research projects relevant to pleural disease. Subject to delivery of the above, candidates may have the opportunity to train in other interventional techniques with colleagues in the lung cancer and intervention service including endobronchial ultrasound and endobronchial intervention. Due to busy workload and to cover leave in this essential service, two/three pleural fellows are in post at the same time in support of the Pleural Team.
