Consultant in Critical Care Medicine with an interest in Echocardiography (1 POST)
A whole-time/part-time post as consultant in Critical Care Medicine (CCM) is available now at the John Radcliffe Hospital. This is a substantive post.
The appointment is on a whole-time/part-time basis but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.

The post
Oxford Critical care is an expanding, dynamic service committed to to delivery of outstanding clinical care. There is an established echocardiography programme within the service that delivers world class training. It is an integrated part of the clinical service and needs to expand due to increased clinical demand.
This post will suit a highly motivated individual who is, foremost, an excellent clinician trained in general adult intensive care, capable of performing detailed echocardiography and integrating findings into advanced clinical management. They must be a keen educator able to contribute to the established echocardiography fellowship programme. They will work flexibly across both hospital sites as patient need dictates.

The post holder will join a teamof 20 Substantive consultants in ICU. They will work along side the other BSE accredited Consultants in delivering the clinical service and fellowship programme. They will liaise with other services including cardiology and cardiothoracic ICU colleagues to ensure patients with complex cardiovascular pathology receive the highest level of care.
Follow-up
The Critical Care follow-up clinic takes place on Thursday afternoons. All patients who have been in Critical Care for more than 4 days are invited to attend. Self or GP referral of any other patients experiencing physical or psychological sequelae of critical care is also encouraged. These clinics are staffed by Critical Care Consultants.This service is expanding with aim of providing a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation service.
Research
The Critical Care service has a long history of clinical research, and at the time of writing patients are being recruited into several studies. There is a purpose-built critical care research and education centre (Kadoorie Centre) on the John Radcliffe site which houses research teams

- GMC Registration- Full registration and licence to practise
- CCT in intensive care medicine or equivalent level of training (e.g. on GMC Specialist Register in ICM or within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview)
- BSE accreditation
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Desirable
- Higher medical degree
- DICM, FFICM, EDIC or equivalent
- CCT equivalence in specialty relevant to ICM
- Post graduate thesis
- Experience of training others in Echocardiography
- Additional training in areas relevant to ICM (e.g. Tertiary Trauma Care, Echocardiography, Transfer, Pleural Ultrasound)
