OUHFT is a large tertiary cardiac centre serving a population of 2.5 million. This exciting new post is designed to provide clinical leadership to the busy Echo Department, which performs more than 30,000 studies per year. In particular it will provide peri-procedural imaging support to the expanding structural interventional programme. This is one of the largest in the country, carrying out over 400 transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedures and 120 transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) procedures each year.
About us
Clinical
The Oxford Echocardiography Department is based in the Oxford Heart Centre on the John Radcliffe Hospital site, and is integrated with the Cardiology Outpatient Department in a large custom-built area. There are 7 dedicated echo rooms including a spacious echo procedure room, and a large reporting/meeting room. Services are provided to the Oxford Heart Centre, as well as to the Trust's other secondary and tertiary specialist services on its four sites. In addition, the Department holds a contract to provide GP open-access echo which is delivered from 6 community sites.
At the time of writing the Department employs 10 BSE-accredited cardiac physiologists, with another 6 who have passed the written exam and a number of more junior trainees. Physiologist-led contrast- and bubble-echo lists are performed, as well as valve clinics on the Horton and John Radcliffe sites. A number of cardiology consultants are involved in the echo service, performing complex transthoracic studies, stress echo for coronary and structural heart disease and diagnostic transoesophageal echo (TOE). However the successful applicant will take a more dedicated clinical leadership role in the Department, supporting the Lead Echocardiographer.
The Oxford structural interventional service has been growing rapidly, and the successful applicant will also support the service by attending relevant multidisciplinary meetings and performing peri-procedural TOE in the cath labs.
Job description
Job responsibilities
The postholders duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work at any of the Trusts other locations if required: the Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Horton General Hospital.
