Job summary

Maternity support workers are central to quality care and information provision working alongside midwives and the wider professional teams to achieve excellence in maternity care.

We are seeking enthusiastic, hard-working, flexible individuals to assist us to provide the best care at all times.

This job is for 24 hours, based over 4 days at 6 hours per day. You will work closely with the Birth Reflections, Healthy Lifestyles, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion , Antenatal Newborn Screening, Infant Feeding and Vaccinations teams. You will primarily be based at the John Radcliffe hospital with the possibility of being asked to travel to other sites. You may be asked to support the acute maternity wards as clinical need arises.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the maternity team you will support and closely work with registered midwives to deliver a high standard of care to women in a caring and safe environment. To work as part of the widerteam in developing and maintaining services provided to women and contribute to the safe, efficient and smooth running of the ward/clinical area. To maintain the dignity and privacy of all women and respect their right to confidentiality.

All new in role, Nursing Assistants, Theatre Support Workers, Maternity Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners will be expected to achieve the Care Certificate within the first 12 weeks of employment if they have not already done so through previous employment. The Care Certificateconsists of 15 standards that set out explicit learning outcomes, competences and standards of behaviour that are expected of a Nursing Assistant. The Oxford University Hospitals Support Worker Academy team deliver an enhanced and extended induction programme, this to facilitatethe training and education required to maintain quality assurance, support and guidance to ensure timely completion and compliance.
